Throwback Tuesday

pen and ink sketch of lake house

Making progress on the studio space in the garage this week. In order to make it simple, easier and a place I enjoy hanging out, I was hanging up inspiration. So I was digging through old (in some cases over a decade old) sketchbooks yesterday, because it’s New Years Day and I don’t watch football really.

Found a sketchbook from around 2010 with drawings from a summer trip to Black Lake, Idaho. My wife’s Family owns cabins on the lake, which is off the Coeur d’Alene River – a tributary to the huge lake with the same name. As the kids were growing up we would usually spend 2 weeks on the lake with the extended family, water skiing, playing in the jet ski and eating big food.

It was hot, and lazy summer nirvana. Family was loud and opinionated and competition was fierce. The lake is private, part of the local tribal area, and nestled in this deep volcanic canyon.

I can still smell the pine in the heat looking at these drawings of summer houses across the lake.
