Sunflower obsession

Sunflowers are happy. I mean really, I dare you to look at one in full bloom and not smile. Started sketching and painting them 10 years ago – funny that it took moving to Seattle, a place not known for its sun, for me to really notice this sun worshipping flora species.

These floppy eared, funny looking flowers come in a surprising variety of colors, shapes and sizes. I never get tired of trying to capture the essence of these things; the heavy texture of the center juxtaposed with the silky grace of the feather-like petals.
