Mixed media study – pigtail Anthurium

Today I worked on a study for a floral piece. I started with a gesso board that I had covered with hand torn rice papers in a color theme. The papers are adhered to the surface with Gel Medium.
I found a reference image of a Pigtail Red Anthurium that I had photographed while on a visit to the Volunteer Park Conservatory a number of years ago. The Conservatory is on the same grounds as the Seattle Asian Art museum. Using a brush and acrylic paint I outlined the basic shape and then started blocking in the color and building it up.

The final piece will remain a study as I am not quite happy enough to call it finished yet.
