Finding inspiration in travel

My wife and I spent 2 weeks in Scotland and Northern England this Spring. It was a trip we had been planning for 10 years. Things (life, work, money…) always got in the way.

We finally went to Scotland in April. It was sorta life changing. The pictures you see don’t really do that country justice. It was mystical; fog and drizzle in the mornings and then sunshine with spectacular clouds in the afternoon.

I bought a Sony A6000 digital mirror-less camera for the trip. I found myself lost in seeing things, grand and minuscule, that caught my eye. The plants there were more delicate and refined. The mountains older and closer. I have come back with renewed energy to sketch and paint some of the nature that stopped me and took my breath. My promise to myself is to do more traveling and leave work behind to be in the moment.

Now i am starting to use all of that richness that i beheld as inspiration for sketching and painting. Just starting to explore some themes of the landscape, architecture and people.
