Getting off the grid for a week
One of the things that my life partner Laura and i have missed the most during Covid is travel. Getting a Covid puppy, that turned out to have motion sickness for the first 8 months didn’t help either. Jobs and the concept of work and life balance seems to have become something we talk about but see very little of right now. Not just us, a lot of research out there showing that most American’s are feeling that same thing.
So last week we took 6 days away (or as “away” as we could get now) and spent it at an Airbnb on the Hood Canal. It rained 5 of the 6 days; but luckily we have all the Pacific Northwest gear and have learned a long time ago how to have fun even when we get wet.
There isn’t a lot to do on the Hood Canal during the off season when it is wet and cold, but we found it. Took day trips (Oleifr is much better at traveling now. see #oleifrtheadventurepup), went hiking in the cold wind and rain and even played in the sun on the front yard of the resort we were staying at when we got a break.
A lot of reading, binge tv watching (#landscapeartistoftheyear) and down time. It was nice and the place was simple but lovely. Came home with a couple new pages in the sketchbook and an appreciation of the subtle color palette of the winter here in PNW.
Look for some landscapes coming to the site in the next few months – there was a lot of food for inspiration.
