Now What?
Finding my voice Part 3 of a multi part collection
I am struggling and experimenting lately; working to create a recognizable style and approach to my work. I want to find my “voice”. The artists that i admire, can be recognized without seeing attribution. I am hoping to develop my own unique style (or at least not so derivative).
My early influences and artwork were pretty classical and representational. I continue to struggle with working too “tight” (realistic). I would like the work to be a bit more impressionistic, expressionist or abstract. So i am experimenting with how to force myself away from the tight rendered imagery. Its a journey.
My vision boards
In her book Art Inc, Lisa Congdon (Instagram success story), shared her pathway to finding her own unique style and inner muse. One of the things she, and other artists, do is create a vision board. This is a way to put in words and pictures your own personal “vision” of what you aspire to communicate and how you want it to feel for the viewer.
Here are some examples and instructions for creating a vision map, i found them helpful and inspirational:

Below is my work in progress for my own vision board (or map if you will). I am continuing to work on it, add and delete and try to refine it. Every time i look at this i edit with new information or a new nugget.
