From a series of textured paintings done on a hand torn Japanese rice paper background. The paper is individually selected for the subject and color scheme, then adhered to hardboard with Acrylic Gel Medium. Layered to create the visual color scheme and texture, the subject is then hand drawn on top of the board with paint. I use multiple layers of transparent glazing (to retain the paper texture and color underneath) and opaque (where i want the paint to cover up). The result is a heavy texture with patterns color contrasted with the more refined paint that feels similar to a fresco.
